Stuart Frankel

Stuart Frankel (Questrom’72) of Miami, Fla., created Subway’s $5 footlong in 2006. The weekend deal was meant to boost sales at the two franchises he owned. A 2009 Bloomberg Businessweek article described the promotion as a hit: “Frankel suddenly had lines out the door. Sales rose by double digits. Nobody, least of all Frankel, knew it at the time, but he had stumbled on a concept that has unexpectedly morphed from short-term gimmick into a national phenomenon that has turbocharged Subway’s performance.”
