Rachel Carnell

Rachel Carnell (GRS’89,’95) of Cleveland, Ohio, published Backlash: Libel, Impeachment, and Populism in the Reign of Queen Anne (University of Virginia Press, 2020), the true story behind the fall of the Whig government, imaginatively depicted in the 2018 film The Favourite. Rachel, a professor of English at Cleveland State University, is coeditor of The Secret History in Literature, 1660–1820 (Cambridge University Press, 2017), among other books.
