Philip Read
Philip Read (CGS’75, CAS’77) of Wake Forest, N.C., launched 27587 Magazine in 2014. The publication has gone on to receive numerous awards from the North Carolina Press Association, including first place honors for Magazine/Niche Publication and the Hugh Morton Photographer of the Year award. Once a managing editor for the Daily Free Press, Philip has had a 32-year career in daily newspapers and has published nine books. He marked his 43rd wedding anniversary with Nancy Rees Read, a hospice nurse and an ordained Episcopal deacon, in 2022. Their son, Philip Jr., is 27587 Magazine’s award-winning illustrator, and their daughter, Lauren Ann Read Koslow (CAS’03), is a reference librarian at the Pratt Library in Baltimore.
