Kevin Merida

Kevin Merida (COM’79) became executive editor of the Los Angeles Times in June. He is the 19th editor of the 139-year-old news organization; as the top editor, he leads the largest newsroom west of the Potomac, according to the Times. Previously, he was a senior vice president at ESPN and editor-in-chief of The Undefeated, a multimedia platform that explores the intersections of race, sports, and culture, according to the Times. During his time at ESPN, he also oversaw the investigative/news enterprise unit and the television shows E:60 and Outside the Lines, and chaired ESPN’s editorial board. Before joining ESPN, he held a variety of roles at the Washington Post, including managing editor for news, features, and the Post’s universal news desk. He’s coauthor of Supreme Discomfort: The Divided Soul of Clarence Thomas (Doubleday, 2007) and Obama: The Historic Campaign in Photographs (Amistad, 2008). He also serves on several boards, including the BU board of trustees.
