Herman O. Kelly, Jr

Herman O. Kelly, Jr. (STH’83) of Baton Rouge, La., pastor of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge, received the Africana Service Award for the 2019–2020 academic year from the African and African American Studies program at Louisiana State University. The award is given to a faculty member who performs far beyond their assigned duties. Herman teaches introduction to African American studies and the history of the
Civil Rights Movement. He serves as financial chair of the African and African American Studies program and helps with recruitment of students to the program. He also received the Legacy Award and the Community Award from the African American Cultural Center.
