David R. Cook

David R. Cook (Wheelock’51) of Menomonie, Wisc., writes, “I enjoy leafing through the classy Bostonia. As my graduation in 1951 had a special element, I thought I would share it. The retiring BU president in 1951 was Daniel Marsh. Dr. Marsh had been a Methodist minister in Pittsburgh and pastor of the church where my parents, Paul and Nelle Cook, worshiped. He was the pastor who married them. One reason I chose BU in 1947 was that he knew my family well. In my years at BU, I was often invited for supper at the Marshs'. In my senior year, I was the sports editor of the BU News. My BU training made me eligible to teach English, which I did for two years in the early 1950s, but I didn’t feel successful at this and my school teaching ended. By 1959 I had a doctorate in counseling and began a career as a counselor educator for graduate students. It all began with BU and Daniel Marsh. I’m now 92 and in good health.” You can email David at davecook@wwt.net.
