Where Terrier town ends and Eagle turf begins

The bitterest rivalry in New England college sports is the ice hockey battle between the BU Terriers and the Boston College Eagles. Hockey fans at both schools are famous for taking the game as seriously as the players do, and around these parts (Boston, Brighton, Allston), the question of where to watch that game of games is more than academic. Last season, BU Today sent two investigative reporters — one a BC alumnus, the other a BU alumna — into some of the many watering holes that dot the turf between the two Commonwealth Avenue titans to locate the exact spot that divides the loyalties to each team. The Terriers finished the 2006-2007 year with a record of 20-10-9 and won their third consecutive Beanpot (their 28th in 55 years of Beanpot history). Coincidence? We’ll see.

The Terriers (4-7-2, 3-3-1 Hockey East) take on the Eagles (3-4-5, 2-3-4 Hockey East) twice this weekend, first on Friday, November 30, at the Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass., and then on Saturday, December 1, at Agganis Arena. Both games start at 7 p.m. and can be heard on WWZN 1510 AM. View Friday’s game online through ESPN 360 and Saturday’s on CN8 and through BU All-Access.
