Zvi Bodie, a professor of finance and economics, has been named the first Norman and Adele Barron Professor in Management at the School of Management. Adele Barron established this new professorship in memory of her husband, Norman (SMG’38), an  alumnus of the School of Management and founder of the Marshall’s department store chain.

“One of the first things that comes to my mind when I think of Zvi is ideas,” says Jack Aber, chairman of SMG’s finance and economics department. “His best ideas have taken hold here and have transformed much of what we do in the School of Management.”

Bodie is currently working on organizing a conference on the science of life cycle saving and investing, to be held October 25 to 27. The goal of the conference is to bring together academic researchers, practitioners, and public-sector policy makers to discuss the current state of this science and to explore its implications for households, businesses, and government. “By facilitating this dialogue,” Bodie says, “we hope this conference will stimulate the adoption of best practices in the development of both new financial products and future public policies.”

Bodie earned a B.A. from Brooklyn College in New York, an M.A. from Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the faculty of Boston University in 1972 and is a leading expert in personal investment strategy.

Aber calls the Barron Professorship “a well-deserved recognition of his life’s work and is an affirmation that much greatness is yet to come.”
