Scholarships help Boston Medical Center employees finish first degree
MC laboratory support technician Sherine Wright’s President’s Scholarship will help her finish a bachelor’s in psychology.
When Sherine Wright, a laboratory support technician at Boston Medical Center’s Upham’s Corner Health Center , decided to go back to school, a major in psychology seemed a natural choice. “When you’re constantly there for your children, you are the support system,” says the mother of three girls. “The mother is always the counselor of the home.”
After five years of hard work at Newbury College, Wright will graduate with a bachelor’sdegree in psychology this summer.
Wright recently received help in funding her education in the form of a BMC President’s Scholarship. The President’s Scholarship Program provides select BMC employees currently working on their first college degree or professional certification with up to $2,500 for tuition, payments, and fees at a college, university, or accredited professional school. The award may also be used for expenses such as child care and textbooks.
“I was really, really happy because it is a big help,” she says. “I think BMC has been very supportive education-wise.” After completing her degree in psychology, Wright hopes to work towards another bachelor’s, in health-care management.
