Andrei Codrescu on his Favorite City
Author and NPR commentator to speak at SMG (with audio)
Andrei Codrescu, a frequent commentator on NPR’s All Things Considered, is best known for his coverage of the 1989 Romanian revolution, a week of riots and fighting that ended the Communist regime of Nicolae Ceausescu.
Born in Sibiu in 1946, Codrescu immigrated to the United State in 1966, became a naturalized American citizen, and ultimately settled in New Orleans. Today, he is the MacCurdy Distinguished Professor of English at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and the author of numerous books of poetry, fiction, memoir, travelogue, and essays.
Codrescu will read from two of his latest books, New Orleans, Mon Amour: Twenty Years of Writings from the City (2006) and It Was Today: New Poems (2003) on Thursday, November 2, at 6 p.m. at the School of Management, 595 Commonwealth Ave., fourth floor. Codrescu’s visit is sponsored by the Institute for Human Sciences at Boston Universitiy, and the reading is in cooperation with Agni and the Harvard Bookstore.
