BUPD’s Captain Molloy gets special training

Captain Robert Molloy of the Boston University Police Department recently spent 10 weeks at the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy in Quantico, Va., where he and other law enforcement leaders from across the country and around the world underwent rigorous training exercises to learn how to better serve their communities. Officers in the program studied innovative techniques in physical fitness, management, leadership, and forensic science, as well as other scientific aspects of law enforcement.
“The BUPD is a very active department in an urban area,” Molloy says. “I can take the information and training and apply a lot in terms of allocating manpower … and [combating] crime issues, such as theft, that involve our students and staff.” He also underwent training in how to better prepare and identify terrorism in an urban environment.
Molloy, who has been a police officer at BU for 19 years, was nominated by his department to attend the academy. Attendance is by invitation only, and fewer than half of one percent of those nominated are invited. “This type of training is good at this time in my career,” he explains, “because you learn about challenges in other police departments across the country.”
